Engineering is all we do.

We've practiced power and energy engineering across Indiana and beyond since 1979. We don't have a construction arm, we don't sell equipment, and we don't have anything waiting on the other side of a recommendation.

Why we can be straight with you

We don't bid the work we design.

When we tell you what your system needs, no part of our business gets bigger if the answer is bigger. There's no second revenue line waiting behind a recommendation, and we think that's the only reliable way for you to know a recommendation is honest.

That isn't a positioning statement. It's how we built the firm, and it's the reason electrical contractors are willing to share a bid with us. An auditor's value depends on not also keeping the books. Ours works the same way.

We've been at this since 1979. Systems we engineered decades ago are still carrying load today, and we intend to be here when the drawings we sign now reach their own retirement.

1 Engineer on Your Project, Start to Finish

You work with the engineer who knows your system, not an account manager relaying messages to a team you have never met. There is no sales layer between you and the person doing the work.

$0 What We Charge to Fix Our Own Mistakes

When we get something wrong, the additional hours are on us. When one of our specifications was wrong, we have paid for the replacement component ourselves. We say that plainly because it is more useful to you than any guarantee we could write into a contract.

Ben Huckaba Contractor & Facilities · PE, Principal

Ben leads our facilities and contractor work with deep expertise in system studies, substation protection and controls, communications, and renewable energy, focused on delivering safe, reliable, and affordable power solutions for our clients.

James Hill Transmission & Distribution Design · Principal

Jim joined our team at the start of his career in 1981. He manages the design and implementation of our transmission and distribution projects (both overhead and underground) for our cooperative and municipal clients.

Trent Fern Rural Utilities · Principal

Trent has been with Alpha Engineering since 1985. He has been involved with utility system design and the design and implementation of transmission and distribution projects (overhead and underground) for cooperatives, municipals and the state agencies in Indiana and Ohio. Trent enjoys resolving the challenges faced in the electrical utility industry.
